The production of cement is an energy-intensive process
that results in the emission of carbon dioxide from both
the consumption of fuels and from the calcinations of
limestone. The high energy intensity makes energy costs
an important part of the total production costs for a
cement plant.
Technological developments towards the optimum
consumption of energy are being followed closely and the
necessary investments are being made. Energy usage data
is being improved continuously. While in 1969,
approximately 900 kcal/kg clinker energy was used in dry
process today this value has become around 730 kcal/kg
clinker.

Bursa Cement Factory also has Absorption Chiller Unit (Broad IX Two
Stage Steam Chiller). The waste hot gas which is taken
from the clinker cooler unit is sent to the recuperation
system for getting steam. A part of the steam which is
obtained in the recuperator is used to supply hot water
and heating purpose. The other part of the steam is sent
to Absorbtion Chiller Unit for supplying cool water
which is used for the purpose of cooling MCC rooms. As a
result of this system, energy saving is obtained by
means of converting energy.
Considerable electric energy savings are obtained by increasing puzzolanic additives (trass, fly ash) in the cement
according to cement standards, using high efficiency
electric motors, realizing low energy solutions for
material transport system and using high efficiency
systems for compressed air.
Moreover, Bursa Cement Factory provides a part of necessary energy
requirement by means of firing waste materials. (Waste
oil, contaminated waste, paint sludge etc.)

Bursa Cement Factory has been continuously striving to reduce
energy consumption in cement manufacture at each step.
The increased consciousness for energy conservation and
the steps taken towards effective monitoring, better
operational control & process optimization, retrofitting
of energy efficient equipment etc. have contributed
greatly in energy conservation efforts. The energy
saving studies is carried out by Energy Management Unit
in Bursa Cement Factory.
The company has won different awards during the last four years in
annual “Project Competition for Efficient Energy Usage
in Industrial Facilities” organized by the Ministry of
Energy and Natural Resources.
